This coat is inspired by soutache embroidery from the Victorian period. Soutache is a type of decorative flat braid which was commonly used to ornament military uniforms. Towards the end of the 19th century, it was adapted for decorative use and can be found on many capes, walking skirts, bodices, and jackets from the 1840s-1890s.
